Northwest Airlines (known also as NWA or just Northwest) Was
founded in 1926 as Northwest Airways starting off as a mail carrier
using biplanes. It wasn't until 1927 that Northwest began transporting
passengers. By 1934 Northwest Airways was renamed Northwest Airlines
and has grown to become the fourth largest airline in the world in
terms of its revenue, passengers and kilometers. Northwest operates one
of the biggest domestic networks in the U.S. and transports more
passengers across the Pacific than any other U.S. airline recording 5.1
million passengers in 2004.

Northwest Airlines is a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance.
SkyTeam began on 22 June 2000 by Aeromexico, Air France, Delta Air
Lines and Korean Air. Since then other airlines such as CSA Czech
Airlines, Alitalia, Continental, KLM and Northwest have also joined the
alliance with more on their way to becoming members. There are also
affiliated airlines such as Air Europa, Copa Airlines, Kenya Airways
and Tarom. Aeroflot and China Southern Airlines have both signed an MOU
taking the first step towards membership. In total there are 2,069
